The word2vec algorithm is an algorithm that uses a neural network model to learn word associations. Its goal, in essence, is to identify synonym words and to add more words to partial sentences. It is a powerful technique in natural language processing. This technique is commonly used in many applications such as speech recognition, image process, and text synthesis.

Negative sampling can be a powerful tool for word vector modeling. It maximizes the similarity of words within the same context and minimizes the differences between them. Negative sampling involves randomly choosing a few words, depending on the size the training dataset. Small datasets tend to have more negative samples than large ones.

For this type of sampling to work, word-context pair must be present in training data near each other. Formula 3 is used to sample a word in its context. This is much easier than computing a softmax for the entire vocabulary.
